Production Engineer Lead

Purpose of Position:

The individual will lead the production engineering team overseeing the production, maintenance, and modification of existing product lines throughout their lifecycle. This is player – coach position. Individual will be an active member of the team overseeing made to order product and updating existing product lines.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Made to Order Oversight (Shepherd Lane):

This group will verify that the product created matches the submittal provided to the customer. It will also provide oversight, technical support, and final inspection to all made to order and modified products.

  • Part Modification and creation
    • Design and modify parts as needed to meet specifications
    • Select vendor for specific part and process-assist with part optimization for manufacturing processes
    • Generate or modify jobs for made to order/modified parts
    • Generate instructions and procedures for made to order
  • Light Fixture Production Oversight
    • Oversee build of made to order/modified product
    • Decide who and when fixtures will be built
    • Build fixtures if necessary
    • Provide technical support
    • Inspect final product verifying necessary criteria and specifications have been met
  • Work with Sales (inside and outside) on product specific questions/training
    • Technical conference calls
    • Ongoing internal trainings and technical support

Product Maintenance and Updates:

This group will maintain, update, and defeature products through their lifecycle as necessary.

  • Advance active product lines
    • Incorporate new options that were not part of original scope
    • Work with production team to improve product assembly (time/quality)
    • Maintain and create Inventory items and Bills of Material in ERP system
    • Assembling and analyzing prototypes and finished components.
    • Redesign or modify part s or process to reduce cost and production time
  • Manage parts catalog and revision levels for active product lines
    • Create accurate mechanical drawings, following Nulite’s standards
    • Maintain and revise existing models, assemblies and drawings.
    • Issue documents to vendors. Help vendors optimize all stages of manufacturing process.
    • Maintain correct revision levels in inventory software
  • Assist production/warehouse staff with part questions/concerns. Create product support documentation, including, but not limited to assembly instructions, production instructions, controls and process specification. 
  • Work with warehouse/production team on material quality; ongoing part inspection, rectification of anomalies
  • Generating test procedures and conducting said tests on a light fixture:
    • Structural integrity; deflection, twist, and bow.
    • Thermal integrity; heat dissipation from light and/or power source, expansion/contraction

Warranty:

  • Provide technical support to inside sales and warranty technician to solve and rectify warranty claims
  • Diagnose warranty problem
    • Travel to installation site when necessary
    • Work with vendor to determine cause of failure and solution

Job Qualifications:

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering (3-5 years of professional experience)
  • SolidWorks experience or equivalent software (3-5 experience)
  • Basic 2D CAD experience (3-5 experience)
  • Basic Adobe Suite experience (1-3 experience)
  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Strict attention to detail
  • Ability to effectively manage concurrent projects

Working Conditions: 

  • Office Environment 50% / Production Environment 50%
  • Communicates with customers and internal personnel via telephone and e-mail 
  • Occasional lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Occasional travel
  • Occasional work in the manufacturing plant

Plant Conditions:

  • May be exposed to heat/cold as typical in a warehouse setting
  • Loud fans and machinery are present
  • Safety equipment will be worn when necessary
